What would you change from the iPhone?
Filed Under Tech | Leave a Comment
Im an iPhone user and although i think its the best phone ever, there are some things i would change/add/modify. First of all, I would add Bluetooth data transfer to transfer pictures and ringtones from one phone to another one or maybe even from my iPhone to my Mac. Another thing that i would change is that i would like to choose what ringtone is used for each function. For example, you cant choose what ringtone is used for incoming text messages and that something i would change. One big thing i would add, is the ability to read the contacts you have on the SIM card. When i inserted my SIM, i couldnt believe i had no contacts. I had to put my SIM into a Motorola phone, then transfer the contacts to a PC, then to my pendrive and finally to my Mac and iPhone. That was a big pain in the A55. Another big thing is that when i transfered my songs to the iPhone, i connected my Bose headphones and it didnt work. The only way to listen to music from the Iphone was by using the headphones apple gives you when you buy the phone. Most of the modifications are just software so Apple could solve them with an update. I think i should have made a list before writing this post as i cant think of anything more to change. Anyway, i would like to see what people would change, add or modify. If you have thought of something, please leave a comment!

Google plans to change cellphone future
Filed Under WebNews, Tech | Leave a Comment
According to Wall Street Journal, in about two weeks, Google will reveal their plans to launch Google-powered cellphones to market by the middle of 2008. Mainly, Google wants to make applications and services that could work on cellphones as they do on PCs. But right now, most consumers are locked into their own wireless network using whatever phones and services are provided by their provider. So, Google is hoping to change that by launching phones that are “open”.
Google cell phones will probably have already installed most popular Google Services such as: Google Search, Google Maps, Youtube and Gmail. Also, independent software developers are stimulated to build additional phone features, taking advantage of users’ GPS location, contact list and Web-browsing habits. They could also interact with Google Maps and other Google Applications and a new social networking, mapping and other services would emerge, just as they have on the open Web.
Of course, “open” phones concept has its bad parts too. Spamming and phishind are frequent on the open web, and their next step could be open for phone customers, but we hope Google can deal with this too.

Facebook to launch Social Ad Network
Filed Under WebNews, Tech | Leave a Comment
November 6. this is the date when Facebook will make the announcement of their Social Ads at New York’s ad-tech conference. Social Ads will try to be like Google’s AdSense, except that it will allow ads targeted to Facebook members’ individual interests and profile data rather than the text on a given Web page. This way, Facebook will actually start to make real money, both through ads on its own website and on other sites through a new ad network it is about to launch together with their new investor, Microsoft.
This new Ad Network will be done by placing cookies on Facebook members’ browsers when they visit the social site, so that they can be identified later when they visit other sites hosting SocialAds. You would think that these ads would be served through Microsoft’s Ad Center. Facebook might be contractually obligated to work with Microsoft on any ads served in the US, even those not on Facebook property. If that is the case, that $240 million investment that Microsoft put into Facebook may soon look like a bargain indeed.

User shaped news on MSNBC
Filed Under WebNews, Entertainment | Leave a Comment
MSNBC is starting a new Internet strategy that will allow viewers to submit video and commentary to create broadcast TV news. The 24-hour network is based in San Francisco’s digital media district, home to Wired magazine and also new offices of leading Internet companies Google, MySpace and Yahoo.
Current Chief Executive Joel Hyatt said: “For years, the attempt to unite television and the Internet has basically been one of duplication of the content on another medium”. In early tests, the company has encouraged users to create postings on topics, then upload photos, animation, embedded YouTube videos, cartoons, text comments and Webcam responses.
MSNBC network already lets professional videographers submit video news segments and is going several step further soon by soliciting user feedback over the Web and converting submissions into online news as well as pieces for broadcast.

No more obscenity on Facebook
Filed Under WebNews, Tech | Leave a Comment
General Attorney of New York, Andrew Cuomo, announced on Tuesday an agreement with Facebook.com to enforce safety measures against obscene content and sexual perverts using this website. Cuomo said at a news conference: “”These social networking sites are attractive. We want to make sure they’re safe. Facebook will have the safest interactions of its kind on the Internet”
Facebook has to respond and begin addressing complaints of nudity, pornography or unwelcome behaviour in maximum 24 hours from receiving them, and to report to the complainant within 72 hours on how it will respond.
Agreement also calls for Facebook, to allow someone independent, someone approved by Cuomo’s office, to report for the next 2 years on its compliance with the new safety measures.

I found a site called “Conversations Over Dinner” that i think its very original and entertaining. This site was created by Jake and his wife Mandy, a happily married couple that lives in Northern Virginia, and its formed by two blogs: the “Male’s Perspective” and the “Female Viewpoint”. What is this site about? Easy. Everyday, Jake and Mandy blog about their dinner. They both put their thoughts, opinions, feelings, topics, points of view and more. I have to admit that i read a couple of pages going from one side of the table to the other one and laughed a lot. One think i didnt like so much was the main page, where you choose what blog you want to read. Its a big flash file and a scrolling text and i think that with a great idea like this, the main page could be much better. Apart from being two blogs, this site could be easily turned into a video log, where Jake and Mandy can record their videos and distribute it for free on Youtube or even making it a free Podcast. That would really give them more traffic to their site. I recommend this site to everyone that wants to laugh about the simple things in life.

How Many Germs Live On Your Keyboard?
Filed Under Humor | Leave a Comment
Have you ever wondered how many germs live on your keyboard? You will get the answer thanks to the guys at Just Say Hi. You can take a simple quiz to find it out. They make you questions like how many times a year you clean your computer, if you wash your hands every time you go to the toilet, how many people use your computer, if you have pets, if you are around small children etc.. Its fun and easy. Surprisingly, this is the message i got: “There are about 1,887,480 germs on your keyboard right now! That’s equivalent to the number of germs on 377 toilet seats.” I thought i would get a smaller score but well, its is what it is. Take this quiz and find out how many germs live on your keyboard!
